1939 National Cherry Festival Traverse City, MI
From Dennisnorthland on Youtube
Labeled as “1940” This video is actually of the 1939 Cherry Festival. The newspapers were full of news of the war in Europe and Asia. America was about to be changed forever. The Cherry Festival in Traverse City Michigan was far from those troubled times but not for long. The Coast Guard brought the queen, Jean Halmond and her court to the city docks. The first ever pet parade was a hit and the highlight was the Grand Floral parade.
The film has no audio and like the popular film of the day, The Wizard of Oz, it changes from black and white to vibrant color. The film is available as a bonus track on the DVD of “We’re In The Movies” from the History Center of Traverse City. Both films are restored to original color saturation with a 1940’s feel music bed by Sonic Fire.
